Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are community-based certified volunteers who provide advocacy for children in the juvenile court to ensure safe and permanent homes.
The Arizona CASA Program is part of the Dependent Children's Services Division of the Administrative Office of the Courts, Arizona Supreme Court. The program was established in 1985 and was "tested" with operational programs in Maricopa and Coconino counties. Rules and procedures were developed, duties and responsibilities were defined, and evaluations were performed by the Arizona Supreme Court. In March 1987, the Arizona Supreme Court formally established the Arizona Court Appointed Special Advocate Program under the court's jurisdiction. The Arizona CASA Program is funded by and currently receives a percentage of all unclaimed lottery prize revenues.
Volunteers are also needed in the area of recruitment, organizing the office library materials and assisting with scheduling speakers for monthly volunteer training and special projects.
