Organization History:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Gila County was established as a satellite office of BBBS of Central Arizona in 2001. In Dec of 2004 we began calling ourselves "Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, serving Northern Gila County", or "Payson Office", for short.  This is intended to reflect the reality that while we maintain a separate budget from the Phoenix service area, we are a part of their organization, sharing their Tax ID number and saving money by utilizing their public relations and grant writing talent.  This means that services can be provided cheaper (we can match more children) when the costs are shared over a wider base. We serve the children in Northern Gila County. To continue our work, we need local contributions and volunteers.

Community Services:

BBBS recruits, trains and matches volunteers with a child in need, who shares the same interests. We supervise and support the match for as long as it lasts, providing training and group activities. BBBS mentoring is proven to help kids to do better in school, stay away from drugs and alcohol, stay out of trouble and get along better with friends and family. And we can't do it without you!

Community Activities:

We sponsor activities and fundraisers for our mentors, children and the community to attend -- such as our annual Sock Hop, Bowl for Kid's Sake, Volunteer Appreciation dinner called "The Big Event", annual picnic and group field trips.
